Asthma Management
Our doctors offer education and treatment for asthma to improve patients' quality of life.
What is asthma?
Asthma is primarily caused by the narrowing of the airways within the lungs, leading to a range of uncomfortable and potentially serious symptoms. These symptoms can include wheezing, a persistent cough (especially noticeable during nighttime), a feeling of chest tightness, as well as difficulty in breathing and episodes of shortness of breath.
It is important to note that asthma is a treatable health condition, and while there is currently no definitive cure, effective management strategies can allow individuals with asthma to lead normal, active lives without significant interruptions.
Asthma Action Plans
A key part of managing asthma is creating a written action plan with the doctor. This plan helps the person with asthma or their caregiver identify when asthma symptoms worsen and provides clear steps to take. Developing this plan is important for discussing individual asthma needs. The written plan serves as a reminder of that discussion. Asthma action plans are very effective and can:
Decrease missed school or work
Lower hospital visits
Reduce emergency room trips
Cut down on reliever medication use
Improve lung function
For optimal care, please discuss with your doctor the most suitable ways to manage your asthma effectively, and be sure to address any specific concerns you may have during your consultation.
